Federal prosecutors say truck driver Syed Shah is headed for a mandatory ten-year prison sentence after attempting to haul nearly 1,000 pounds of methamphetamine across the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, Michigan. According to investigators, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers uncovered the massive stash, roughly 425 kilograms, during an inspection earlier this year. The drugs were hidden inside a commercial load, triggering an immediate federal investigation and leading to Shah’s arrest on charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Court records show Shah has since pleaded guilty
on acknowledging his role in the cross-border trafficking scheme. Under federal law, the amount of meth seized carries a minimum 120-month sentence, with the final term expected to rise depending on additional sentencing factors. Officials say this seizure represents one of the largest meth interceptions in the region and highlights the growing trend of cartels exploiting commercial trucks for drug smuggling. Shah now awaits formal sentencing as federal authorities emphasize continued enforcement at major border crossings.
