A small pin-truss bridge on Carroll & Philpot Roads in northern Baltimore County, Maryland collapsed this week after septic tanker truck driven by John Cossentino attempted to cross the bridge on Monday, October 20th, 2025. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.  After a full inspection, authorities determined the driver did not violate any regulations and therefore will not be cited.

By Wednesday, October 23rd, engineers were still working to determine the best way to remove the tanker truck and other debris. “Our engineers are at the scene assessing the situation, determining with contractors what the best course of action will be in the short-term and long-term,” said Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation spokesman Ron Snyder

The bridge, constructed in 1879 and rated “fair” in its last inspection, was carrying more than 2,500 vehicles and over 120 trucks daily, a traffic volume more than triple what it saw two decades ago.
